Meet Dennis and Joyce Orwin
Dennis and Joyce, returned Peace Corp volunteers, have been tour guides for Columbus Architecture and the Miller House for many years
Dennis Orwin (MA English, Purdue 1964) taught English at Haile Selassie I University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for two years, then taught at Purdue for another year, followed by 4 years of high school teaching elsewhere before coming to Columbus North in 1971 from which he retired in 1997. He also taught at Indiana University/Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) for 15 years, primarily research, composition, and creative writing. He has been a tour guide for both the Columbus Architectural Tour and the Miller House for many years. Current interests include international travel, pickleball, reading, and gardening, when B&B responsibilities permit.
Joyce Orwin (BSBA, University of Florida, 1962) served in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, where she and Dennis met and married. Joyce worked in finance at Arvin Industries, Inc, Columbus, IN for 20+ years, and worked in sales at Tipton Lakes Athletic Club (part time) for 29+ years. She has worked at the Columbus Area Visitors Center as Volunteer and Tour Coordinator since 1994. She trains the tour guides and organizes all of the tours. Last year she was responsible for over 900 tours. Current interests include traveling, cooking, reading, pickleball, and assisting at B & B on a part time basis.
